Mandatory Trainings

Trainings Required by Departments of Disabilities

The Academy provides mandatory trainings for those providing services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our classes go beyond the minimum, mandatory requirements, to provide you with a quality education provided by instructors with expertise in the field.

8 Hour Initial/Annual Mandatory Provider Certification - any person or agency that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities must obtain certification from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.

  • Includes providers applying to deliver Medicaid Waiver Services under Level One (L1) & Individual Options (IO) Waiver, & non-Medicaid funded services
  • Meets requirements for both initial provider certificate and mandatory annual training for current providers
  • Students will receive a certificate for 5 hours of mandatory, annual training, as well as a certificate for 3 hours of the mandatory CEUs required by DODD.  These 3 additional CEUs are also approved for the competency-base and longevity add-on.

CPR/First Aid/AED - meets the required standard for Provider Certification through the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. 

  • Red Cross CPR and First Aid training includes the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). 
  • Participants will get a card stating the successful completion of course curriculum in CPR and/or First Aid valid for two years through the American Red Cross.

Adult Day Support/Vocational Habilitation - Adult Day Support and Vocational Habilitation waiver providers must take 8 hours of Adult Day Support and/or Vocational Habilitation training in addition to the 8 hour initial and annual provider certification training. 

  • Class content meets both initial staff training and annual renewal training requirements of Adult Day Support and Vocational Habilitation staff.  

Medication Administration Certification – Initial and Renewal
All medication trainings meet state requirements for medication administration certification. All medication trainings meet state requirements for medication administration certification.

  • Category 1 (Initial Certification)
  • Category 2 (g-tube/j-tube)
  • Category 3 (Insulin)
  • Stand Alone training. 
  • All classes include skill checks.

Director of Operations/CEO/Executive Director Initial/Annual Training - This class meets DODD requirements for initial and annual Director of Operations and CEO training, PLUS value-added tools and tips including:

  • Employee onboarding
  • Direct support profession crises
  • Changing the culture to be trauma responsive and care for DSPs
  • Funds management
